It was a boring day , one of those days where you just don't feel like doing anything , so i decided to check out some games. Now normally at the store the guy pushes the usual sellers like fifa and call of duty but in the back there was
this game with an interesting cover and a massive price tag . naturally i was willing to settle for anything to cure my case of boredom . at home i punched the game into my ps3 and what do you know i hated it.so i tossed this so called elder scroll game on the shelf
and it would remain there for 2 months.
Every month i have a habit of going back to my shelf to finish a game i never got a chance to or to give games a second chance before i sell or just give away.
on that faithful June of 2006 i had no other game to revisit except the irritating brown game i bought 2 months ago.so i checked it out , it all came back the weird controls
the brown (oh the brown), i never made it past the prison part (which is barely10 mins by the way), i got up to remove this game from my life once and for all,but my brother insisted i give the game at least an hour before condemning this odd and expensive game we have. and so i did.
Within the hour i started to get used to the controls i decided to play in first person (as it should be ) which allowed me to aim ,i fiddled with the inventory and got accustomed to the magicka.
there was something about this game that just kept seducing me . In the beginning you create your character in a lot of detail i might add , you also select a race and star sighs represent the various perks
in the game.now you spend a good part of an hour running around in caves and sewers beneath the prison you once resided .then you reach a gate , once u activate it ,the
game asks if you want to change anything about your character and this will be the last time you can.how odd .i opened the gate.
from the moment i opened the damn thing i never looked back to the doubt and hate caused by misunderstanding i had towards this game,i never again questioned the controls or the first person view, i never again looked to another rpg with the same level of respect.once the blasted gate was opened your eyes are greeted with what i think was crafted by angels using the tears of pixies.you are tossed into this open living
breathing world that is the world of oblivion.you swim across a small river to find your first encounter which is a group of bandits , i slaughtered the hell out of them ,looted the camp and just kept walking ,and i have never regretted give that brown game the hour my brother insisted on giving.
Oblivion is massive and i mean that by every meaning that word can possibly have , you can go anywhere ,enter any house, pick up anything and read every book.I began with one
mission but soon i found my self drowning in a pool of side quests , each different from the other for the most part ,each having the capability of being a movie, and most a stand alone game only because 'of
how breathtakingly amazing the idea is. after getting unique items from some missions and joining guilds in different cities , i decided it was time to explore the word Bethesda has created. i went on adventures that aren't even scripted in the game ,i explored the beautiful caves and temples scattered around the map, finding items and weapons that could have gone undiscovered .that's what amazes me about oblivion
its the way the game unfolds depending on each player and their attitude and patience.i ended up helping counts ,buying houses flying up the ranks of guilds ,going on religious quests
and finally infiltrating and shutting down oblivion gates.i can go on and on about the things i did, became and explored in oblivion , but i wont .
How do you know a game is a good game ,it gives you amazing moments while you play, but how do you know a game is a great game , it leaves you with amazing memories long after
you put it down and long after the fifas and call of duties have reached triple digits in their titles.oblivion is a great game and it has become one of my favorites ,up there with
ocarina of time and shadow of the colossus. this is in no way a review of oblivion this is just the view of one gamer whos way of gaming has been changed by it.
After these years of loving ,replaying and adoring oblivion a trailer appears . one day a close friend of mine walked in the room with a video to show me , the video played but the more it played the more i didn't believe my eyes. it was just an old man doing a voice over while a wall of stone with carvings on it scrolled by , but there was something about the music being played in the background,
the oblivion symbol embedded on the wall and the name that just brought a tear to my eye, it was Skyrim and it was beautiful.since then i have seen every video or screen shot about it,for in the end
it was the sequel to my beloved game.i hope that skyrim will do what oblivion did, i hope i finds a place not only in my heart but in the hearts of many gamers out there.
oblivion will always have my love and Bethesda will always have my respect for as long as i live.
i am hamoude and i love oblivion.
